The mythological Griffin has a body of a lion with head and wings of an eagle.
Folklore suggests that Griffins built their nests of gold gathered from the mountains.
They guarded the precious nests vigilantly from thieves. I envision this as the
perfect creature to protect the ruler of a Kingdom. In this sculpture, the Griffin steps
in between the King and his attacker just in time. I imagine the King's Guard being
startled by an enemy, causing his scepter to fall to the ground.
