The origin of the word graffiti is from the Italian word graffio, meaning a scratch. Scratching art on rock has served as personal expression dating back to ancient cave paintings.
Native Americans often scratched petroglyphs on rock surfaces capturing aspects of daily life, animals or nature.
This sculpture shows a lizard on an abandoned rock in the desert, representing its ancestral image.
